When it comes to timing races, you just never know about all of the
challenges you'll be facing. Sometimes it's a sunny beautiful day, and
sometimes it's raining cats & dogs! In some instances, you'll show up
and discover that the finish line needs to be at the edge of a stream
with no available power source. The good news is that Jaguar is
designed to handle all of these situations. Fortunately, the race
participants at the Mountain Bike Time Trial had good weather for their
competition. It was a great race for both the participants and for the
Jaguar Timing System.
Jaguar performed well, capturing all the riders as they crossed the
finish line. Capturing times for bikes in a BMX style race can often be
challenging because the chips are sometimes on the bikes, and not
the riders. By the time those bikes cross a finish line, they are often
wet or covered in dirt and mud. In this particular race, we had one
rider whose broken bike didn't stop him from finishing. As you can
see in the picture to the right, he simply ran with his bike through the
finish line! That's one dedicated athlete. The timing chip is actually on
the bib hanging from his handle bars. As you can see, the chip was
about 4 feet in height as it crossed the finish line. For most timing
systems, that would be a problem because they may not read more

than 2 to 3 feet. With Jaguar, we had no worries. The system can read the chip as far away as 30 feet, so even if a biker carries
his bike across the finish line, we'll likely read the timing chip.
One of the great advantages of Jaguar for a BMX race is that we don't use mats or wires. Our antennas can be placed above or
beside the race course. In this particular race, we had 2 antennas placed on each side of the finish line connected to a single
Jaguar timing case. Another advantage of Jaguar is its ability to generate instant reports at any time. During this race, we were
able to display race results instantly and participants didn't have to wait for their results. With our announcer screen, the
participant's personal information can be displayed in real-time as riders finish the race.
The beauty of Jaguar is that it does a great job without even being noticed by the racers. They didn't have to wear a timing chip
because our tags were placed on the bike. They didn't have to turn in their timing chip because our chips are disposable. They
could carry a bike across the finish line and not have to worry about their timing chip being read. They didn't have to wait for race
results, because we can display them in real-time during the race. And finally, they didn't have to worry about riding over a wet mat
on uneven ground because our antennas were on the sides of the finish line. In summary, Jaguar did just what it should...it made it
possible to deliver great race results no matter the challenges or race conditions.
