Jaguar G4 and G4 Pro — 4th-generation RFID race timing systems by Innovative Timing Systems
Forget about missed reads.
Our 4th-generation timing system reads up to 500 tags a second, shrugs off the weather, and grows with your business. Choose the portable G4 — or the G4 Pro, with a faster read rate, a built-in computer, and an 18-hour battery.

The Jaguar G4 and G4 Pro are professional passive UHF RFID race timing systems — the rugged decoder behind chip timing for marathons, 5K and 10K road races, triathlons, cycling races, obstacle course races, motorsport, and school and charity events. Built on the Impinj E70X chip set, each system reads up to 300 (G4) or 500 (G4 Pro) transponders per second from any bib- or shoe-mounted chip, drives up to four antennas over standard RP-TNC connectors, and records chip times to 1/1,000th of a second. The rugged, IP-67 waterproof case is drop-tested to MIL-STD-810 and rated from −30 °F to 140 °F. You own the system outright — no subscription and no per-race fees. The G4 Pro adds a built-in hardened computer with a 256 GB SSD, an optional touch-screen interface, and an internal battery rated for up to 18 hours, integrating directly with the ITS YOUR RACE registration and results platform.

How RFID Race Timing Works
Chip to decoder to results, in milliseconds
Passive UHF RFID means no athlete ever stops at the line. Here's the path from a bib-mounted chip to a live result.
- 01
The chip (transponder)
Each athlete wears a lightweight passive UHF RFID chip — a transponder — on their bib or shoe. It carries no battery; the antenna powers it.
- 02
The timing point
Antennas across or beside the course — overhead, side, or folding-ground mats — form the read zone at the start, finish, and every split.
- 03
The decoder
The Jaguar G4 decoder reads every chip that crosses and stamps the exact time to 1/1,000th of a second — up to 500 reads per second.
- 04
Live results
Jaguar software turns reads into live results, splits, certificates, and photos — pushed to the ITS YOUR RACE platform in real time.
Frequently asked
Questions timers ask before they buy
Model differences, read rates, antenna compatibility, power, and weatherproofing — the things every race timer wants to know before investing.
What is the difference between the Jaguar G4 and the G4 Pro?
Both share the same 4th-generation Impinj E70X reader core, four antenna ports, IP-67 rugged case, and Jaguar software. The G4 Pro adds a built-in hardened computer with a 256 GB SSD, an optional touch-screen interface, an internal battery rated for up to 18 hours, a higher maximum read rate (up to 500 vs. 300 reads/second), and built-in SnapShot photo support. Both systems operate from a laptop running the Jaguar software. Choose the G4 for a lighter, lower-cost system on AC or external power; choose the G4 Pro when you want a faster read rate, all-day operation on its internal battery, and onboard extras like the touch-screen, built-in SnapShot photos, and 5G remote communication.
How many chip reads per second can the Jaguar G4 handle?
The Jaguar G4 reads up to 300 tags per second and the G4 Pro up to 500 — read rates engineered to be roughly 500% faster than the previous generation. Both are built on the Impinj E70X chip set with automatic antenna tuning, and both record chip times to 1/1,000th of a second, so dense finish-line packs are captured cleanly without missed reads.
Does the Jaguar G4 work with my existing antennas?
Yes. The Jaguar G4 and G4 Pro use standard RP-TNC antenna connectors and work with all existing Jaguar antennas. Each system drives up to four antennas simultaneously — overhead, side, or folding-ground — and you can run multiple readers to extend coverage or add split points along the course.
Can I time a race with the Jaguar G4 without external power?
The G4 Pro has an internal battery rated for up to 18 hours, so it can time a full marathon, triathlon, or multi-wave event with no extension cord and no generator. The standard G4 runs on AC power (110–240V) or an external battery pack. Both systems also support 5G USB dongles, so you can run a remote start or split point with no fixed power and no local network.
Is the Jaguar G4 weatherproof?
Yes. With the cover closed the case is IP-67 waterproof, and the system is rated to operate from −30 °F (−34 °C) to 140 °F (60 °C). It's drop-tested to 4 feet (1.2 m) and built to MIL-STD-810 and ISTA 1A standards — designed to keep timing in the harshest conditions, including rain, ice, mud, and snow.
What software does the Jaguar G4 use?
Both systems run the Jaguar software — powerful yet easy to use, with real-time photos, live clock updates, finisher certificates, live scrolling results, social-media updates, and remote control over Wi-Fi or the internet. The G4 Pro can display all race results on an optional touch-screen, and it integrates directly with the ITS YOUR RACE registration and results platform.
How many companies use Jaguar timing systems?
Over 500 companies in more than 40 countries use Jaguar systems to time up to 18,000 events every year — everything from local 5Ks to international marathons, triathlons, cycling, and motorsport. Many timers start with one or two systems and grow their business as demand grows, thanks to the quick return on investment.
Do I need a separate Jaguar system for the start and finish line?
Not for an out-and-back race such as a 5K or 10K where the start and finish share a location — one system covers both. If your start and finish are in different places, you'll want a second system, unless you use a gun start for the event. Adding readers is also how timers extend coverage and add split points as they scale up.
What kinds of events can the Jaguar G4 time?
The Jaguar G4 is an all-around RFID timing solution used for running, cycling, triathlon, kayak and paddle sports, motor sports, skiing, and even drone racing. Its small size and minimal setup time make it ideal for anyone who needs a highly portable, professional-grade system. More than ten purpose-built disposable and reusable chip designs cover nearly any type of event.
Does the Jaguar G4 Pro have an onboard computer? Does it replace my laptop?
The G4 Pro has a hardened internal computer with a 256 GB SSD, an optional touch-screen, an internal battery rated for up to 18 hours, built-in SnapShot photos, and 5G remote communication. It does not replace your laptop, though — like the standard G4, you still operate the system from a laptop running the Jaguar software. The onboard computer adds power, storage, and the Pro-only capabilities; it isn't a stand-alone timing console.
How does RFID race timing work?
An RFID race timing system has three parts: a disposable or reusable RFID chip — also called a transponder or tag — worn on each athlete's bib or shoe; antennas laid across or beside the course at each timing point; and a decoder, which is the Jaguar G4 itself. The Jaguar uses passive UHF RFID built on the Impinj E70X chip set, so the chips need no battery — the antenna powers each chip as the runner crosses, the decoder records the read to 1/1,000th of a second, and the Jaguar software turns those reads into live results, splits, and finisher certificates. Because the read is automatic, runners never have to stop or check in at the line.
How much does a Jaguar G4 race timing system cost?
A complete Jaguar setup is the G4 or G4 Pro decoder plus antennas and chips, scaled to the size and number of events you time. The current starting price for each model is shown on this page, and unlike rental or subscription systems you buy the Jaguar outright — there's no per-race transponder fee and no annual license — so most timing companies recover the cost within their first season. Financing is available, and our sales team can build a tailored quote around your event mix.
Is there a subscription or per-race fee? Do I own the Jaguar system?
You own your Jaguar system outright. There's no decoder subscription, no annual software license, and no per-race or per-read fee — buy the G4 or G4 Pro once and time as many events as you like. The only ongoing consumable is disposable chips when you choose them, and reusable chips are also available, the same as any passive RFID timing system. That outright-ownership model is a core difference from subscription-based active-transponder systems.
How does the Jaguar G4 compare to MyLaps, Race Result, or ChronoTrack?
The Jaguar G4 is purpose-built for running, multisport, and professional timing businesses, and it's the system behind over 500 timing companies in more than 40 countries. Compared with systems such as MyLaps, Race Result, and ChronoTrack, timers most often choose Jaguar for outright ownership with no subscription, an all-in-one workflow with the ITS YOUR RACE registration and results platform, and responsive US-based support. The best fit depends on your events — see our side-by-side comparisons for the details that matter to your operation.
What's the difference between chip time and gun time?
Gun time is the elapsed time from the start gun to the moment you cross the finish — the same reference for everyone in your wave. Chip time, or net time, is measured from when your own RFID chip crosses the start mat to when it crosses the finish, so it isn't affected by how far back you started in a large field. The Jaguar G4 records both: official awards typically use gun time, while each runner sees chip time as their personal result. Both are captured to 1/1,000th of a second.
