Becoming a Jaguar timer is relatively easy and it can help you create a full or part-time business that can generate a significant amount of profits. At ITS, our goal is to partner with you and help you become successful. You see, we don't make much money selling you the hardware and software. We make money as you grow and provide timing and registration services to events. We hope to sell plenty of timing chips, provide race registrations, sell photos, and more. Best of all, you actually make more than we do in most cases because we literally share our profits with you. That's how it should be and it's only fair.
To help you become successful, we have an amazing number of services and tools that no other company can begin to provide. Let's walk through the steps of becoming a Jaguar timer!

Step 1 - Analyzing Your Opportunities
Creating a timing company is no different than starting any other business. You need to identify your target customers and make some decisions about the type of events you want to time. We can help you with this process because we have over 500 timers in 40+ countries and we truly understand the subtle differences between Denver and Denmark. Step 2 - Purchasing Your First System
Now you are ready to get started and we'll help you configure the proper system. In most cases, you'll use our Platinum XT system. It's a powerful product that uses overhead or ground antennas and it can handle races from 50 to 50,000 athletes! The brochure shown here will provide you much more detail on the system. Depending on the size of the races you will be timing, we'll guide you in configuring your Platinum system. One of the great things about our product is that it can survive nearly any condition or environment. It also has multiple levels of redundancy, ensuring you that your timing will be outstanding.

One of the challenges for many new companies is having the cash to invest in the equipment needed. We've even solved that by offering financing through our third-party finance company. Financing is often the best choice because you can conserve cash, pay over time, and in many cases, write off the expense of your purchase. Our agents are able to walk you through your options. Step 3 - Receiving Training
Your system just arrived and now you're eager to get started. We're almost there, but first we need to get you trained to handle your events. We're second to none when it comes to training and support. It starts with our comprehensive manual that teaches you the basics of timing and also explains the various features in our software and hardware. At the same time, you'll gain access to our private training web site where you can watch short videos that explain everything. In addition to that, we have case studies and other training documents that focus on everything from business fundamentals to advanced timing topics. You would think we would stop there...but not a chance. Next, we'll assign one of our 5 support engineers to give you personal user training remotely over the internet. When your first race is approaching, you'll be able to upload your race files and we'll even do a complete simulation of the event to make sure your ready to go! There's even more that we do to ensure your success, but you get the point...we're going to truly hold your hand.
Step 4 - Setting Up Your Its Your Race Account
As a Jaguar timer, we want you to make a lot of money so that you'll be thrilled about your decision to join our family. Many years ago, we built our own registration and results platform called ITS YOUR RACE (IYR). It's one of the largest registration platforms in the world and it offers amazing features that race organizers desire. For example, you can provide races free photos with logos, fundraising tools, automated emails, a free race app and more! Unlike other timing systems, our IYR services are completely integrated into our Jaguar timing software. That means you can offer live results on televisions, web sites, smartphones, tablets and other devices. Now for the best part; we pay our timers a minimum of $1 for every paid registration on our platform and even more if the registration amount is for an event like a Marathon, where the registration fee is perhaps $100. Step 5 - Marketing Your Services
Now that you have your equipment and you are trained, it's time to begin marketing your services to local races. We're going to provide you some amazing services. The first step is making sure you have a great web site and excellent marketing materials. We can help you with your web site design and even show you examples of outstanding web sites used today by other Jaguar timers. In addition, we'll provide you the artwork for your own brochures, for FREE, with your logos and corporate message built in. You can then print the brochures you need at a local or online supplier. We take care of the design so that you can start up quickly and not have to spend money on the artwork. This will save you $1,500 or more right away! The next step is showcasing your company on Google, and we'll help you with that as well. For less than $100 a month, you can begin advertising your web site so that people looking for timers in your area will find you. We have experts on our team who can guide you in your Google advertising program. Not only that, we spend thousands of dollars every month advertising the services of our race timers and you'll be a part of those campaigns. We typically provide as many as 200 timing leads every month to our timers across the nation.
Step 6 - Launch! Now You Are Timing Races
Your business is now up and running and you're about to time your first race! You'll be excited and probably a little nervous. That's ok because everyone is nervous their first time. No worries though, we're going to make sure you are ready. Three to five days before your race, you can call us and we'll take remote control of your system to verify that your settings are correct. Then on race morning, we'll be here ready to take your call should you need any help. We're open for support 364 days a year and since most races are on a weekend, we open at 7am on Saturday and Sunday. Best of all, unlike competitors who might have an answering machine for weekend support, we have a team of engineers who are immediately available. Isn't it re-assuring to know that we're here and you'll never have to worry about being out there on your own!
Step 7 - Expanding Your Business Rapidly
Once you have your first few races timed, you'll be ready to expand and start making a lot more money. To do that, you'll want to begin timing more than just running, cycling or triathlon events. Jaguar makes that possible because our systems are designed to time virtually any kind of race. We've timed motorcycles, kayaks, paddle boards, autos, mud runs, obstacle races, drag races, etc. Our systems are incredibly flexible and we have a large portfolio of chips that are custom designed to maximize read performance in specialty races. Imagine trying to time a paddle board event on white water using any other system. Difficult to likely impossible. Jaguar has done just that and we continue to do so every year! Best of all, we don't make you buy a different type of system to do this. No need to own a passive and active system. Our passive technology works great and this lowers your cost and minimizes your training.
Step 8 - Making More Money By Using Our Products
Now that your business is growing... you are poised to make a lot more money by offering additional services to races. Every race organizer wants to deliver a world-class experience to their athletes. We have numerous products that are fully integrated into the Jaguar platform. Let's take a look at some of these offerings:
Digital Clocks
Runners want to know their finish times as quickly as possible. Fans appreciate knowing the time when their friend or loved one completes the race. Race organizers love seeing a clock that's so bright, you can read it from 1,000 feet away! Best of all, our clocks communicate with your Jaguar system over a wireless connection. They're paper thin, run on battery for up to 24 hours, and they come in multiple sizes. If a race organizer understands the benefits provided by the clocks, they will typically pay more for your services. For example, many race timers will charge $300 per clock and place them at the Start, Finish and multiple split points.
Race Photos
Race photos are often treasured by athletes and family members. Jaguar's SnapShot system automatically captures photos, uploads them to our ITS YOUR RACE registration and results platform and even places them on the finisher certificates. You'll have the ability to sell the photos individually to the athletes, or you can sell the photos in advance to the race organizer, who then provides them for free to the participants. In addition, the photos have two locations where logos can be placed. You'll be able to sell these logo positions to the race organizer or to other sponsors. This generates even more income for your company.
Results Kiosks
When athletes finish the race, they want to celebrate their success. The Jaguar Kiosk not only delivers their results, it also shows the athletes their race photos. In addition, it will print a receipt that the athlete can take home and frame alongside of their bib! The kiosk operates on a wired or wireless network communicating with the Jaguar timing system. You could even place kiosks 3 miles away at the local bar and grill where the finisher party is being held. Most Jaguar timers will charge from $200 to $300 per kiosk at an event. This can generate an additional $500 to $1,000 at a race!
Step 9 - Helping The Race Grow and You Grow As Well
As a race timer, you are effectively a partner with the event, and as they grow and prosper, so will you. Obviously, helping them put on a first class event with Jaguar and ITS YOUR RACE (IYR) will cause more athletes to come back. It will also attract new athletes when they are looking for an event in their area and they see the race listed on IYR. It's not uncommon for our timers to see significant growth in the size of the events they assist. However, there's another secret weapon in your growth portfolio.
We publish the largest digital magazine in the industry, RaceTimes. We have over 760,000 subscribers and an estimated readership of 900,000 athletes. You can sell ads in the magazine and receive a commission on them. You might make $200 for a single race ad placement, and the event can now be visible to as many as 760,000 potential participants. Imagine the reaction when you tell a race organizer that for less than $2,500, they can reach over a half-million runners or more who are looking for their next event! In addition, our RaceTimes magazine is often read online at our IYR web site, where as many as 2.5 million people visit each month.
Final Step - Enjoying The Financial Results
The American dream is still alive and doing well. Many of our 500+ timers joined our family because they wanted to make some extra money to pay for future college educations for their kids. Others joined us because a spouse became unemployed and they wanted to finally take control of their financial future. Some of our timers are athletes who love the sports industry and wanted to be a part of it, while also enjoying the added income. Yet other timers wanted to build large companies that would support their family for the current and future generations. No matter your reason, one thing is clear. If you're ready to work hard and build your own business, we can help you accomplish your dreams. Take a look at an example of what you might charge for a typical 5/10K race. As you look at the numbers, keep in mind that your monthly lease payment for owning all of the equipment listed may be as little as $250/month.
Obviously there will be expenses applied against the gross income of $6,550.00. We'll assume the race has provided the bib and you have paid 75 cents for each ITS chip. You'll need 800 chips, and that will cost a total of $600. In addition, we will assume that you have two staff members helping for 5 hours on race day. Each of them will be paid $20/hour, for a total cost of $200. Let's add in a decent lunch for you and your team at a cost of $60. Furthermore, let's allocate $80 to our insurance savings account. We'll use that money at the end of the year to renew our coverage. Finally, let's add $150 to our savings account for equipment maintenance. When all of that is done, we'll have a total expense of $1,090. Subtract that from our revenue and you've just made a gross profit of $5,460! That works out to around $6.80 per athlete in the event! Don't think it's possible? We have timers doing this today and some make even more!
As a professional timer, not all of your races will have 800 participants. Some events may be 200 athletes, while others may have 3,500 athletes. In your first year, assuming you are working hard to grow your business, you may time 15 to 20 events. Some of our best timers have grown from 15 to 200 events in just a few years. Imagine the income when you are timing 50 races a year with an average of 400 athletes per race. Using our sample model shown above, we take 400 athletes x 50 races x $6.80 per athlete. Ok, to be totally fair, we'll reduce the number of athletes to 300 and the number of races to 40. We'll also lower the per athlete figure from $6.80 to $5.00. Even with those reductions, our gross profits will be $60,000 that year! You will of course have other expenses, but with careful planning and a focus on cost management, you'll still make a lot of money. Finally, imagine what happens when you grow into one of our Top 20 timers and you're timing 200 races a year. You'll make enough money to support your family, save for your future, and have a job that you love.
